WHO I AM:

I first began making wine with my father in 1996.  By 1999 we were producing barrel quantities of award winning amateur wines.  Our 2004 Pinot Noir & 2004 Barbera won silver awards in both the 2006 San Joaquin County Fair and 2006 Indy International Wine Judging. Our Barbera also won the Best of Class award in the 2006 San Joaquin County Fair.  In search of a career change in 2005 and with encouragement from friends and family, I began to take the steps to turn the family hobby of creating hand crafted small lot wines into a commercial brand.  The focus of Paul D Cattrone Wines is to produce great food friendly wines of Italian varieties and styles.  In July 2008, Paul D Cattrone Wines proudly released its first commercial vintage.

THE VINEYARDS:

Grand Island, Walnut Grove, California

At the mouth of the Sacramento River’s Deep Water Channel lies the Klein Family’s Grand Island vineyard.  With deep friable soil and maritime breezes, Grand Island is an optimum growing location for Pinot Noir.  The Pinot Noir Mariafeld clone vines are planted on a bilateral cordon T-trellis system in East-West orientation.  The 2006 Pinot Noir fruit was hand picked from this vineyard.  This vineyard is carefully managed by Louis Casale, a 3rd generation farmer of the Delta/Lodi area.  The Cattrone family have known and worked together with the Casale family for over 50 years.

Union Island, Tracy, California

Out amongst the corn, asparagus, and soy bean fields of northern Tracy lies the Klein Family’s Union Island vineyard.  We have sourced grapes from this vineyard for over 10 years and have consistently been impressed with the awards our wines made from this vineyard have received.  The Barbera vines are planted on a bilateral cordon T-trellis system in East-West orientation.  Our 2007 Barbera was hand picked from this vineyard.  Under the careful guidance of vineyard manager Louis Casale, fruit quality was pushed to the limit.
